It was the ninth hour of EPIC DAY – a star-studded event hosted by my dear friend Dr. Marcy Cole. Each year she brings together an incredible line up of speakers. We sat enthralled as Lisa Nichols, Dr. John Demartini, Jack Canfield, Rebecca Rosen and Dr. Michael Beckwith shared their particular zone of genius.

The theme for the day… You create your own epic destiny fueled by positive energy, generosity of spirit and an epic community to encourage you along the way. Just when I thought the day couldn’t get any better, Marcy surprised us with one final special guest.

Let me introduce you to Joyce Aimee. To glance at her is to fall in love with the human spirit to create, reinvent, perform and delight. In her nineties, she decided to take on television after a life in the performing arts – singing in cabarets, running a talent agency, recording albums, touring the world and generally making a musical ruckus.

On Sunday, February 17th, 2018 – I had the pleasure of hearing her perform.

Isn’t she fabulous? Now, consider a moment the lyrics to the song “Here’s to Life”*

No complaints and no regrets
I still believe in chasing dreams and placing bets
But I had to learn that all you give is all you get
So give it all you got
I had my share
I drank my fill
And even though I’m satisfied
I’m hungry still
To see what’s down another road beyond the hill
And do it all again
So here’s to life
And every joy it brings
So here’s to life
To dreamers and their dreams
Funny how the time just flies
How love can go from warm hellos
To sad goodbyes
And leave you with the memories you’ve memorized
To keep your winters warm
For there’s no yes in yesterday
And who knows what tomorrow brings or takes away
As long as I’m still in the game
I want to play
For laughs for life for love
So here’s to life
And every joy it brings
Here’s to life
For dreamers and their dreams
May all your storms be weathered
And all that’s good get better
Here’s to life
Here’s to love
Here’s to you
May all your storms be weathered
And all that’s good get better
Here’s to life
Here’s to love
Here’s to you
My friend, with all the chaos we face in our lives and in the world, I bring you Joyce to give you a wee bit of perspective. Life is not easy. Pain is part of the journey and while my heart aches at every school shooting, every evidence of injustice, every story of bullying, every update about ongoing wars and strife – there is this presence of grace.
When you show up in the world with a bit of compassion, a dash of perseverance and a tenderness toward humanity, you are part of the solution. Keep sharing YOUR voice. It matters.
Here’s to life
Here’s to love
Here’s to you,
Alexa
