The Real Gift of Teaching

A few weeks ago I attended UdemyLive in San Francisco. I’ve been an online instructor on their platform for several years and this was the first time they’ve hosted a live event. It was incredible meeting my fellow teachers, some awesome students, the great team at Udemy, as well as my personal hero – Seth Godin – who hosted a master class.

One of the highlights of the event, was seeing a site map of where my students are located around the globe. Talk about perspective! Now, I’m not sharing this to brag or boast – not in the least. The truth is, it is incredibly liberating to create content (be it a blog post or an online course) and share it without expectation of any particular result.

You see, being an online content creator means that you will likely never meet the fans and followers of your work. Sure, some hire you to work with them privately, or write comments and connect with you on Facebook, but the large majority just watch and move on. And that’s perfectly OK!!!

When you share your voice, you are simply planting seeds in someone’s mind. You are giving them suggestions, encouragement perhaps, or tangible tactics to improve their lives. Your success cannot be measured in the number of your Twitter followers or comments underneath your post. It just doesn’t work that way. If you’re going to find the courage to keep putting yourself out there, you have to release those expectations and trust that the right people will find you at the right time… All over the world.

In today’s video I’m sharing WHY I’m more committed than ever to keep creating courses online and sharing weekly advice right here on the blog. If you are considering putting yourself on camera, creating a course, speaking up at work or even changing careers, today’s advice will really resonate with you.

Small, intentional shifts coupled with an unwavering commitment to grow yourself just a little bit is EXACTLY what this world needs right now. Take a course, stay positive, and be kind to strangers. This is the secret to happiness.

Your audience cannot wait to hear from you!

PS: What’s ONE THING that you can take action on this week? You are almost GUARANTEED to make it happen if you WRITE IT DOWN. Go for it in the comments below!

Awkward on Camera? How to Overcome Your Habits

The Benefits of Healthy Boundaries
