I have a wee confession. I’m still a total newbie when it comes to social media. It looks so darn easy when I watch other people do it and then when I get on my various “platforms” I’m seriously stumped about what to say. Isn’t that funny?
Sure, I share some snappy pics on Instagram. I tweeted about the last picture of David Bowie before his sad death and I posted my latest free series on my Facebook page, but it’s awkward for me. It’s true!
I admit that it doesn’t come naturally, but I’m doing it anyway. Mostly because I’m convinced that people don’t really care as much as I do and my intentions are to bring light into this world. The way I see it, it’s my responsibility to use these awesome tools to connect me with the people who are drawn to my work. Don’t you agree?
So, I’m diving into this social media stuff with an entirely new attitude…. PLAY.
Have you heard of Periscope? You can broadcast yourself LIVE. My husband and I checked it out the other morning and we sat with our jaws dropped in amazement as we watched people “scope” while they were putting on make-up, while another was “Partying with Russians in China” (actual title). One woman was even chatting while driving to work. Yikes!
While one part of me thinks that this is possibly the most narcissistic thing in the world, another part of me think’s it might be a simple way for me to connect with you LIVE, without the cumbersome business of Google Hangouts.
So…I joined Periscope and I’ll be hosting my first “scope” on Friday, January 15th at 7am EST / 10am PST. To join me live, just head over to my Twitter page this Friday at 10amPST and you’ll be able to see the LIVE VIDEO in my feed.
Watch the video and hear what I will be discussing! This conversation is for YOU after all, so have a look at the video and please send me your questions if you’re not able to join me live. (HINT: I want to help you rock one of the most powerful tools on the web!)
It feels great to come out of the social media closet and admit how I really feel. In fact, I feel better already.
Thanks for listening. Thanks for watching. Thanks for being YOU.
PS: This video is totally unedited! Set up and shot in less than 5 minutes. It was so easy I bet you could do it too. : )
PPS: Have a question about getting yourself on camera? Go ahead and post it in the comments below. I”ll address it on Friday!
