Today I am taking you behind the scenes… The lovely Firestone sisters travel the world, create amazing retreats and share their insights on their blog. They have been toying with creating video for some time now, but yesterday they took the plunge. Here is a sneak peek of my down-and-dirty set up in Lucy’s lovely Venice bungalow…
Have you been watching the Olympics this week? I’m completely hooked. Those magnificent athletes have dedicated a good portion of their lives to their sport. When I think of all the training, perseverance, sacrifice and joy they have experienced along the way, I am speechless. One thing I know for sure, is they practiced. A lot. […]
Most people confess to me that they are rather self-conscious when public speaking. In other words, they are habitually focused on themselves instead of their audience. Their inner monologue chatters away, “Do I look nervous? Am I remembering everything? Why is my mouth so dry?!” Have you been there? It’s no fun…for anyone. If your attention is inward, then it’s nearly impossible to get out of your head! So, how can you break this tricky habit?
Perhaps you have heard the phrase “everyone’s a critic”. With so many opportunities to express your opinion, be it on Facebook, personal blogs, the Sunday morning talk shows or CNN, people simply can’t help themselves from chiming in. Let’s face it. We have become a culture of critics. But what happens when the critical one is staring you in the face as you share your big idea? How do you respond?
How many times have you regretted something you said? In the heat of the moment it simply feels right to snap back, lash out, or yell loudly, but what happens as a result? The holidays have come and gone and if you’re like me, you might still be recovering from all the hoopla. Festivities can be fun, but they can also be somewhat tiring. If you need to re-charge your batteries, I have a wonderful trick to share with you in this week’s video.
I love Diana Nyad. I heard her speak a few years ago and her spirit ignited the room. She was funny, passionate, honest and utterly captivating. She had just turned 60 and was fueled by the notion of swimming from Cuba to Florida, without the aid of a shark cage. […]
The Christmas holidays are upon us and for those of you who celebrate, you will likely be pulling out your Smartphone to take tons of pictures throughout this festive time. Between family gatherings, tree trimming parties and the office soiree there will be lots of opportunities to click away. Now, I’m all for photos, don’t get me wrong. I have thousands of them to sort through on my computer. The question is, how many times do you put a screen between yourself and the precious moment you wish to capture?
Did you know that more people fear public speaking than death? Seriously! Given the choice between exiting the planet and standing up in front of an audience, a great many individuals would choose departure. Imagine that. But did you know that this fear can be conquered quickly and painlessly?
Um, I, uh, hope you are, like, having an, um, great week. It’s like, uh, December! Crazy, right?
Yep. Fillers. Those sneaky little ums, uhs, and likes that wiggle their way into our dialogue. But they need to go away. Why? Because people don’t have the mental patience to focus on what you are trying to say. If you make them work too hard to understand you, they will simply tune you out.
